(Since I live in norway and use the norwegian translation, I'm not exactly sure to what it says in english. The Macally RKEYA ultra slim USB keyboard with round keycaps has a standard layout with 106 full size, yet thin, keys for a comfortable and efficient typing experience. Yeah, I also checked the progress bar with VO+F3 to see if that could give me any clues, but it only says "progress bar buissy", or something like that. But even if there isn't a physical pause key on the keyboard, perhaps there is a VO keyboard command that will let me stop the fast updating numbers for a while to hear what the whole thing says? Well, there is the pause key on F8, but that only opens iTunes every time I press it.

When using windows, I could always hit the pause/break key to temporarily stop the updating of any screen items, but on Mac there is no pause key as far as I have found. It updates too fast for me to get any idea to how far the copying has reached. When tabing around with VO in the copy window, I find a place that constantly updates how much of the content that has been copied. Anyway, when copying, I would like to be able to check the progress, since it probably is around 400 gB and will probably take a while to finish. I've had this issue before in other situations, but right now I'm copying the content of an external hard-drive on to my macs hard-drive, so I can format the external hard-drive without loosing the things I got on it. In fact, it’s surprising that they’re still so common on keyboards today.I've come across an issue. With the exception of the Scroll Lock key in Microsoft Excel, there’s very little the average person can do with these keys. These keys are old and not commonly used - if you wondered who was using them, the answer is very few people. This shortcut functions similarly to Ctrl+C, which is also used to terminate applications in command-line environments. The Break key can be used to end DOS applications - pressing Ctrl+Break terminates a DOS application.

On a Windows/generic PC keyboard, the Mac modifier keys are as follows Windows/Start key: Command Key. Follow the on-screen instructions to help macOS recognize your keyboard. This will open the keyboard identification window. This can allow you to read BIOS POST (power-on self-test) messages that flash on your screen for a short time. Open System Preferences and select Keyboard. The Pause key can also pause many computers during the BIOS boot-up process. Press another key after pausing and the program will continue. Depending on how the program is written, this may also pause the program’s execution. When you press Pause, the output scrolling down your screen will stop.

The Pause key is designed to pause a text-mode program’s output - it still works in the Command Prompt window on Windows. Scroll Lock is a toggle, just like Caps Lock and Num Lock - on some keyboards, Scroll Lock may also have a dedicated light.

These days, most operating systems and programs will simply ignore this key-press event. The operating system can listen for the event and do something special. it behaves differently from other keys on your keyboard - when you press this key, your computer’s BIOS generates a special interrupt that tells the operating system the key was pressed. This key was meant for invoking low-level operating system functions. To actually invoke the System Request key, you’d need to press Alt+SysRq. These days, keyboards generally combine the SysRq key with the Print Screen (or Prt Scr) key. The SysRq key (sometimes Sys Req) is an abbreviation for System Request.
